Whittlesea Bushfire Memorial

Following a successful tender evaluation process, it was with extreme honour that Evergreen Civil Pty Ltd were engaged by the City of Whittlesea to construct a monument at Toorourong Reservoir Park dedicated to the lives tragically taken from the Whittlesea district during the devastating bushfires of Black Saturday.

Works included the individual cutting, by hand, of existing Harcourt Granite slabs stockpiled on site following the re-construction of the nearby Toorourong Reservoir dam wall. These blocks were assembled into two separate walls as well as bespoke seating in between. A number of hand-crafted plaques were individually re-bated into the walls in-situ.

Associated works included the construction of associated concrete footings to walls, granitic gravel pathways, earthworks, soft landscaping and provision for future irrigation to the area.

Works were completed by the end of April in time for the private opening conducted by council.
